1949 School Trip To Switzerland
Post by Ron Patten
This photo was taken on a school trip to Interlaken in Switzerland circa 1949. Headmaster, Mr Hicks, is on the far left. Kneeling, first left is David Covell. Next to him is David Hicks (Mr Hicks son) and I’m on the far right.
I have fond memories of this trip. I remember on Basle Station all the boys were offered an orange each by the owner of one of the well known watchmakers. The orange tasted delicious! It was the first orange I had tasted since before the war! We stayed at a hotel called Alpenblick whose proprietor was Madam Frooticker (not correct spelling!) who could not do too much for us and we stayed in a typical Swiss chalet.
Please someone what year did I go on a School Trip To Switzerland? I can remember staying at the Hotel Alpenrose in Wilderswill and being absolutely staggered when walking out onto our balcony and staring up at the Jungfrau. It brought back so many memories visiting the village last year, albeit with a Zimmer Frame.
