I have many happy memories of Mayfield Girls 1962/67. My favourite teacher was Miss Nicholson who really had a big impact on my life. Up until the 3rd year I wasn’t interested in reading, poetry or theatre but all that was changed by her inspired and enthusiastic teaching. I was saddened to hear of her death.
Other teachers who stand out for me are Miss Hudson with the ‘Modern Dance’ and Mrs. Bowen. I can remember Miss Sheardown ‘withering you’ with a look, and Mrs. Mendem calling us ‘toads’. I recall feeling so grown up when we left junior school, and then feeling so small when we arrived at Mayfield and saw all the big girls. I am still in contact with two ‘old girls’ Maxine Cole and Christine Shaw and would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.
