Richard was considered one of the school’s academic elite, vying for top spot with classmates Robert Hutton and Roger Goffee. He was a tall young man with a mop of ginger hair and a very distinctive gruff voice; a gentle giant who played for a while in the school rugby team. He was a great school mate, and when I returned to London in 2004 I made contact with him. He was living on the Isle of Dogs, where I now live, and we talked about having a class reunion. Sadly, we never did get it together.

1968 Bernie Steel
This site evokes long forgotten memories. I attended Mayfield School from 1962 to 1968 and having worked around the world I am now back in the Old Country working as a Project Director for an international energy consultancy. I would be pleased to hear from anyone that knew me during my time at the school.
1968 David Braham
I attended Mayfield from 1962 until 1968 where my uncle, Harry Braham, was a teacher. I’ve attached a picture of the two of us together. I left Mayfield to work at the Prudential Insurance Company for a short time before training to be a teacher. I am now a Headteacher at a Primary School called Bengeworth First School in Evesham, Worcestershire.
1969 Chris Bryant
I would like to send messages of gratitude to some of Mayfield’s teachers that I feel I must thank. I know it may not be possible to contact them personally so perhaps I can do it through Mayfield Memories. I often wonder how they are and if, indeed, they are still with us, which makes it doubly important for me to say a vey big thank you to them. Continue reading →

1971 Joseph Arendse R.I.P.
Joseph was one of my absolute best friends throughout my turbulent time at Mayfield. His folks came from South Africa and were always very strict with him but their ‘encouragement’ helped him become a really bright lad and a fine musician by all accounts. I spent many happy times around his house in Blythswood Road, Seven Kings as indeed he did around mine. I was completely devastated to learn that poor Joseph had died whilst still very young, around 21 I believe, of a heart attack thus proving beyond all reasonable doubt that there is absolutely no justice in this World whatsoever. Still sorely missed to this day.

1971 Mick Crump R.I.P.
For those who remember Mick Crump, who left Mayfield in 1971, It is with sad tidings that I report he died a few years ago. His Widow Sue and his daughter Mandy survive him they are doing well.
